Ingredients |
- 3 medium-sized onions (sliced)
- 2 green chilies (finely chopped)
- 3–4 peppercorns
- 2-inch piece ginger (grated)
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- 4 tbsp cooking oil
- 1½ tsp salt
- 1 ¼ Red chili powder (as per taste)
- 2 large tomatoes (pureed)
- 2 tsp garam masala (blend of Indian spices)
- 2 tsp tomato ketchup
- 1 tsp sugar
- ½ cup water
- 1¾ lb cottage cheese (paneer)
- 1¾ lb grated cheese
- 1 bell pepper (capsicum) (sliced in thin rings)
- 2 bay leaves (tej patta)
- ½ tsp turmeric (haldi) powder

Method |
- In a food processor, grind sliced onions, green chilies, peppercorns, ginger, and cinnamon. Heat the oil in a deep sauce pan. Add the onion paste and cook until the onions turn golden in color.
- Add the salt, red chili powder, turmeric, 2 bay leaves, garam masala (Indian spice powder), ketchup, and sugar.
- Add the water and boil for another 10 minutes. Cover with a lid. Keep gravy aside.
- Cut the cottage cheese into 1 inch pieces and arrange in a baking dish. Pour the hot gravy sauce over the pieces. Add grated cheese on top and garnish with sliced capsicum rings.
- Bake at 375F for about 30–35 minutes.
- Serve hot with naan or rice.
